Installation Direction & Orientation: Critical Impact on 350°C High-Temperature HEPA Filter Performance

Installation Direction & Orientation: Critical Impact on 350°C High-Temperature HEPA Filter Performance

Application: Dry-heat depyrogenation tunnels and sterilization ovens.
Filter type: Stainless-steel-separator, ceramic-seal high-temperature HEPA (350°C).

I. Airflow Direction – Forward vs. Reverse

Forward = Correct. Reverse = Prohibited.

Issue Consequence of Reverse Installation
Dust-holding capacity Service life drops from 8–12 months to only 3–5 months
Media integrity High-velocity airflow tears pleats → PAO leak test fails
Contamination risk Particles penetrate to clean side → endotoxin false positives
Thermal stress Uneven expansion cracks ceramic seal → persistent leakage
Energy efficiency Initial resistance increases >30% → fan overload, laminar flow disrupted

II. Mounting Attitude – Vertical vs. Horizontal

Vertical = Recommended. Horizontal = Prohibited.

Aspect Vertical Mounting (Correct) Horizontal Mounting (Wrong)
Dust distribution Gravity settles dust in pleat channels; gradual pressure rise Dust cakes over entire surface; rapid blinding
Service life 8–12 months 2–4 months (reduced >60%)
Pleat integrity No vertical compression; pleats remain open Deadweight collapses lower pleats at 350°C
Seal loading Uniform compression; low leak risk Bottom seal deformed; persistent bypass
Contamination risk Minimal High (dust shedding → particle failure)

45° Inclined: Emergency use only. Service life 5–7 months; shorten leak-test interval to 6 months.

III. Combined Failure Mode

Reverse airflow + Horizontal mounting =
Permanent blockage, pleat tearing, seal leakage, and batch product contamination within months.

IV. Summary – Core Rules

Rule Requirement
Airflow arrow Must face forward (guard mesh on inlet side)
Mounting attitude Vertical only (pleats perpendicular to ground)
GMP compliance Both conditions mandatory for efficiency, long life, and cleanroom stability

Final Verdict: Forward airflow + Vertical mounting = Maximum life, stable operation, GMP pass.
Any deviation = Shortened life, leak risk, compliance failure.
