New antimicrobial air filters tested on trains rapidly kill SARS-CoV-2 and other viruses

In a study published in the journal Scientific Reports on March 9, 2022, strict testing was conducted on the antibacterial treatment of air filters coated with a chemical fungicide called chlorhexidine digluconate (CHDG) and compared with commonly used standard “control” filters.

In the laboratory, cells of the SARS-CoV-2 strain of the virus causing COVID-19 were added to the surface of the treated filter and control filter, and measurements were taken at intervals for over an hour. The results showed that although most of the viruses remained on the surface of the control filter for one hour, all SARS-CoV-2 cells on the treated filter were killed within 60 seconds. Similar results were also observed in experiments testing bacteria and fungi that typically cause human diseases, including Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Candida albicans, proving that this new technology can effectively resist both fungi and bacteria.

At the same time, in order to determine the effectiveness of the filter in the real environment, both the control filter and the processed filter are installed in the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system of the train carriage. These filters were installed in pairs on carriages on the same railway line for three months, then dismantled and transported to researchers for analysis to calculate the remaining bacterial colonies on the filters. The experiment found that even after three months on the train, no pathogens survived on the treated filter.

Further testing also found that the processed filter is very durable and can maintain its structure and filtering function throughout its lifespan.

Our SAF/FAF brand’s efficient antibacterial two in one filter has excellent antibacterial and efficient filtration functions. Welcome to consult and purchase!
